ECG day

Went to help out in the ECG centre yesterday, it was rather dull, I have to admit.

The women I attended to were too heavily chested. 'They' probably weigh about 1 kg each (or more?). I had a hard time trying to stick electrodes under them.

The men, on the other hand, were too hairy. Too much hair hinders the probes from adhering to the surface of the skin, and men don't like it very much when you pull off a bunch of hair off along with the probes. Yetch.

Okay, I guess that was the most interesting part of my life at the moment. -_-

Watching Pirates of the Caribbean tonight! And no, I'm not happy about France winning by a penalty yesterday. Bah.

Woo.. Sexy old men. Like Harisson Ford and Richard Gere. Ah! (Picture taken from BBC Sports)

disaster of a world cup

Some things are so unpredictable.

Like France beating Brazil, dammit!

Every team that I support surely goes down, somehow, someway. Take Arsenal for example. I don't think I need to elaborate more on that. -_-

I have to applaud France for their great effort though, they played very well indeed. Zidane was his magnificent self as usual, but HENRY? Why!!! Why score at the match that matters most?? Aargh. Well I guess it wasn't such an uneventful Saturday after all, with England losing to Portugal. 1966, 1966, 1966, teehee.

kidney stones lalala

If you haven't heard, Nik had a renal colic a few nights ago. That poor boy, had to be rushed to the hospital and be pumped with morphine.

Eeyew Nik look at the yucky things you've got in your kidneys. *shakes head*

He's much better now, he came into my room yesterday with a smug on his face - the stones have come out! Now he's bouncing off the walls and skiving classes. Tsktsk.

Now back to work. Hope you guys enjoy the match tmr.

Edit: Here's payback.

radioactive iodine

It's official - I can now glow in the dark.

Just kidding.

Finally went for my radioactive iodine treatment today, and boy, am I feeling relieved. It was a pain-free and trouble-free experience, with nothing much involved. I was asked to swallow a tiny capsule that the physicist struggled to remove from a very heavy and thick-walled bottle, and voila - my gland is now on its way to heaven.

I've been given a list of precautionary steps that I  must take to avoid exposure of gamma rays to the outside world. No touching children, no preparing food for others, no close contact with the human species.. It's an incredibly long list of things I need to stay away from, which is rather frustrating as I'm not allowed near my cat or any of my friends. Nik is having a fun time calling me the radioactive woman, but I have even more fun ordering him to prepare lunch and dinner for me as I'm not allowed to touch any kitchen utensils (risk of contamination!). Teehee.

Fortunately, I did not feel anything after swallowing the capsule, apart from a bit of flatulence (possibly from all my breakfast cereal) an extreme tiredness (possibly from my laziness). I've just gotten up of a 2 hour nap and haven't done a single piece of work, which seems rather fun but is actually very annoying.

The greatest struggle now would be to abstain from late night snacks, chocolates and Thai Sweet Chilli. I've converted my carbo-packed meals to lighter, less fattening ones. Urgh.

Sigh. Life can be so difficult.

family guy

I've been following the best cartoon series after The Simpsons lately, it's called Family Guy. Try to catch it if you can, it's bloody hilarious and sometimes just plain stupid. Comes in handy when you're stressed out and need something just completely brainless to give you a good hearty laugh.

This cartoon revolves around the lives of a very dysfunctional family, they can be so weird I sometimes wonder if the creators of this series are actually mentally competent. An obese father with a pea-sized brain, a scheming little rugby-head baby, a talking dog who has an alcohol problem.. I've put a short clip of an episode below, tell me what you think.

BEP and the weekend

So I went to see Black Eyed Peas perform at the Wembley Arena on Friday. You can read all about it in Nik's and Jeng Yean's blogsites.

All I can say is, it was amaaaazing. The Pussycat Dolls did the opening for BEP, and they were, well, very good performers. Dressed in close to nothing, they shaked and shaked their booty for about 40 minutes, to the galore of the boys. The singing wasn't all that fantastic, but wow, the experience was really similar to watching a pole dancing show in Amsterdam.

There're a plenty more pictures of these girls, you can find them on Nik's or JY's flickrs. After 40 minutes of drooling, it was BEP's turn.

We were very lucky to get good standing positions just second from the front of the stage. The crowd went absolutely mad when they started off with Hey Mama, and the party (ie jumping around) went on for an hour 50 minutes.

Will.i.am was the crowd favourite, not surprisingly as he is such a natural on stage. Fergie came in second, well, for obvious reasons yeah. Her legs, her humps, her bumps. Omg. :P

We met Jon and his LSE friends there as well, and as you can see, all of us were a definitely a little psycho after the whole thing. That's us trying to do the Pump It pose, I think. RRAH!

And then on Sunday, we had a little picnic at Hyde Park. Unfortunately I don't have pictures of the food but they were great as well. I made macaroni & cheese, Cheryl made a fruit salad & some sausage cocktail salad thingy and the boys, well, they just bought drinks and snacks.

Played frisbee then headed back to Cheryl's place to...

                                        ...play poker.

We played and played and played until dinner time, so we headed off to Sakura to eat and then to Haagen Daz afterwards to celebrate JY's birthday in advance.

Here's a very blur picture of the birthday boy and his waffle cum cake. He was moving around too much lah. Sorry bout the not-so-fantastic birthday, JY!

And that was our weekend. How was yours?

dato' jimmy choo obe

Met my cousins at Hyde Park for a little picnic on a beautiful Sunday, and Dato' Jimmy Choo, famous shoemaker of all time, was there as well!

My cousin Linda and her sister Cat with the boys. It was Linda who introduced me to Jimmy Choo, what an honour!

Wonderful Greg and Wing.

I was rather intimidated by the thought of sitting on the same picnic mat as a world reknowned craftsman, but Dato' Jimmy was nothing that I expected him to be. He was down-to-earth, friendly and a wonderful person to chat with.

He bought 2 loaves of expensive malted bread to feed swans and ducks (!), and took us on an exclusive tour around Hyde Park, which really is like his playground, as he lives just opposite this gigantic park. With him was his lovely wife and daughter, both extremely humble ladies, and extremely pleasant as well.

On L: Whole family of ducks freeloading. On R: Emily Choo, 15. Lovely girl yeah?

After 2 hours, we made our way to his exclusive boutique at Connaught Street. It is a petite-looking shop, where he does his custom-made shoes only, Jimmy Choo Couture. The shoes that you see in Selfridges with the label Jimmy Choo London are not designed by him, and do not belong to him. This trademark was unfairly sold away to some lady 5 years ago (I think), and therefore he only deals with special made-to-order shoes. In his shop, were racks of super b e a u t i f u l 'Jimmy Choos', and downstairs was his little workshop where he makes these shoes of superior quality.

He showed us an album containing loads of pictures of him taken with various celebrities, including Katie Holmes, Prince William (drool), Naomi Campbell, Jamie Oliver, Jay Kay and so on. He chatted happily about each celebrity, all of which are extremely fond of him. Not surprising really, Dato' is such a wonderful individual, and it definitely was a great honour to have met him, thanks to my very cool and happening cousins. :P Before we left he even asked me to give him some 'medical advice' (kononnya I know la) regarding his postural hypotension and dizziness. Muahahahaha one day, maybe one day, I would be his private physician and he can pay me in JChoos. Muahahahah -_-

PS: I actually intended to put more pictures but I accidentally hit the Backspace key and everything got wiped out. So, yeah, make and do lah. So lazy to start all over.

grown up?

I realised that since I came to London, I've turned into a rather.. urgh.. grown up person. I find this a big change in my life cause I've always been pampered by my parents and my lovely kakak.

But there're some changes that I find rather, odd. Take grocery shopping as an example. I go through garlic cloves, looking for the fattest, healthiest ones. I go crazy over Tesco vouchers and their Buy 1 Get 1 Free items. I find so much satisfaction in cleaning the stove and wiping the kitchen counter. Omg. I've turned into a lai lai.

Just this evening, Yanni and I made green bean soup. Complete with gula melaka and coconut milk. How cool is that? *beams* I've learnt to saute shallots without setting off the smoke detector (think Kemahiran Hidup Form 2) and cooking isn't all that terrifying now. I still can't iron my clothes but who cares, as long as my consultants don't complain of my crumpled shirt.

The reason why I'm saying all these is because I miss Malaysia so badly. I miss the comfort of knowing someone would do my laundry and that I can eat Hokkien noodles anytime, anyday. Teehee. Also, it's officially summer here in the UK, the tube tops and mini skirts has arrived. And yet, I'm stuck at home, struggling to study while the rest of the world soaks up the sun. Sob.

PS : Good luck Yanni and gang, for your results tomorrow!

PSS: Guess who's opening for BEP on the 15th of June?

Non-existent hips and cannot make it faces.

Kakakakak I can't believe my luck. Lalala!

strangers

Cheryl and I were at Leicester Square's McDonald's yesterday, when two guys in their early 20s sat down next to us and asked, "Do men or women lie more?"

It was a rather strange way of saying hello, but we gave our courtesy tongue-in-cheek answer, hoping to ward them off. Unfortunately, they stayed. Duncan, the white guy, started chatting Cheryl up, and even had the cheek to ask for her phone number.

I was luckier, perhaps. Max, the black guy, was extremely polite and charming. He started to read my palm, claiming that palm reading has been in his family for generations. Then he went on and on what he saw about my past and future, which pathetically wasn't close to anything I'd expected (well the past part at least).

After a few odd topics of conversation, Cheryl quickly said we had to leave, so we got up to go. Before we left though, Max asked me to grade his palm reading from 1 to 10, and promptly asked for a kiss on his cheek when I replied 8. Sheesh, freaking desperate psychos. I obviously said no and hurried out. When we found a safe place to hide, we saw them lingering in front of McD's, obviously looking for another girl to get a kiss from. Sheesh, the people you meet in this world.

more surgery

Waking up at 5 in the morning for surgery isn't exactly fun. My legs are rather wobbly now from all the standing. Did another catheterization today, and kaka this time it was.. slightly trickier.

I think it'd be rather gross if I were to describe all of it in detail, but all I can say is, uncircumcised dingdongs are rather gross, and annoyingly difficult to handle. Let me be honest with you, I don't see much dingdongs, let alone touch them, so you can imagine my jakun-ness when the SHO kept telling me to pull the foreskin back. Foreskin? This looks like a perfectly normal dingdong to me, except a little wrinkled up. She nearly screamed at me, until I did a little tug and realised, ooh.. i see now. o_0

Okay this post is officially gross. Perhaps I should warn KennySia to go ahead and zhng his dingdong.

PS: I'm not some pervert okay, just a medical student struggling to learn the human anatomy.
